BUCHAREST, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Romania recorded the highest growth in the gross domestic product (GDP) in the European Union in the third quarter, according to revised estimate released on Thursday by the European Statistical Office (Eurostat).
Romania scored the highest quarterly economic growth in the July-September period, both on the year-on-year basis and on the quarter-to-quarter basis, according to Eurostat.
On a yearly basis, the Romanian economy expanded by 8.6 percent in the third quarter from a year ago. On the quarter-to-quarter basis, the economy rose 2.6 percent in real terms from the second quarters of this year.
In the first nine months of the year, the Romanian economy grew by a seasonally-adjusted 6.9 percent, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
