HANOI, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Bai Choi singing, a folk music genre practiced in Vietnam's central region, on Thursday was added to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The recognition was made during the 12th session of the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in South Korea on Thursday, Vietnam News Agency reported.
Bai Choi is often seen at local spring festivals and resembles a game, using playing cards and village huts. The Bai Choi songs are about festivals, daily life and work, and are accompanied by musical instruments.
The folk singing genre is popular in the eight central provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa, and central Da Nang city.
