BANGKOK, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Thailand plans to launch Street Food fairs throughout the country beginning next month, a senior government official has said.

Yongwuth Saowaphruek, director of the National Food Institute under care of the Ministry of Industry, said on Monday that the planned food fairs will be launched under a Street Food 4.0 campaign designed to promote the traditional, distinguished Thai cuisine to the world.

For starters in Bangkok, the Street Food fair will be organized at a riverside spot in Rama VIII Bridge area in Phra Nakhon district of the Thai capital next month, said the director of the institute.

Similar food fairs showcasing traditional Thai dishes will follow in the provinces nationwide, schedules for which are yet to be publicly announced, he said.

A dozen Thai dishes will be offered for visitors to taste at the planned food fairs including Somtum (papaya salad), Pad Thai (fried noodle Thai-style), Tomyam Koong (hot and spicy shrimp soup), spicy chicken curry, spicy beef curry and sticky rice with mango, among others.

Earlier this year, Thailand was proclaimed as venue of the world's best street food by CNN news agency. Enditem
