PYONGYANG, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Kim Jong Un, visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun on Sunday to pay homage to the late leaders of the country, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Monday.
The former palace serves as the mausoleum of Kim's grandfather and founder of the DPRK, Kim Il Sung, and his father Kim Jong Il., who passed away on Dec. 17, 2011. Sunday marked the sixth anniversary of Kim Jong Il's passing away.
Kim sent a floral basket to be placed by the statues of the two leaders and pledged to carry on their causes -- building a strong nation and a strong party, the KCNA said.
People across the DPRK also paid homage to Kim Jong Il, who ruled the DPRK from 1994 to 2011, by laying floral baskets before his statues and other monuments dedicated to him.
