NEW DELHI, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- More than 12 people have been injured after 10 vehicles were caught in a pile-up on an expressway in India's Uttar Pradesh state Tuesday, police said.

The accident occurred on the Bangarmau stretch of the Lucknow-Agra expressway in the state's Unnao district, some 250 kms from Uttar Pradesh's capital Lucknow.

"Low visibility due to dense fog was responsible for the collision between the 10 cars this morning. The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital," a senior police official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he added.

This is the second major pile-up on a high-speed corridor in the state in the past one-and-a-half month. In November, 18 cars rammed into each other due to dense fog on Yamuna Expressway.

Common in northern India in the winter months of November to January, dense fog often leads to road accidents.
