BEIJING -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.38 percent to close at 3,487.86 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.21 percent lower at 11,296.27 points.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday on bargain hunting and hopes for robust earnings reports from Japanese companies next week, although concerns a U.S. budget issue could shut down the U.S. government, saw gains checked.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 44.69 points, or 0.19 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 23,808.06.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed 0.41 percent higher to 32,254.89 points on Friday, refreshing the record high for the third consecutive day.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 31,986.0 and 32,254.89, and closed at the highest level of the day, up 132.95 points compared with the previous trading day's close.

The turnover on Friday totaled 162.6 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 20.80 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 0.82 percent or 29.05 points to close at 3550.36.

A total of 1.47 billion shares changed hands with a turnover of 1.40 billion Singapore dollars (about 1.06 billion U.S. dollars). Gainers outnumbered losers by 271 to 165.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Friday moved up 2.02 points, or 0.11 percent to close at 1,821.34 points.

Some 12.18 billion shares worth 78.06 billion baht (about 2.45 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian markets closed higher Friday. Benchmark indices touched another all-time high in late trade, banking stocks continued to support the market.

The benchmark S&P BSE Sensex closed at 35,511.58, 251.29 points or 0.71 percent up compared to its previous close at 35,260.29.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended higher here on Friday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,828.83 up 7.23 points or 0.40 percent, and the Emas was at 13,195.82 up 55.72 points or 0.42 percent.

Turnover decrease to 3.83 billion shares valued at 3.19 billion ringgit Malaysia (807.59 million U.S. dollars), compared with 4.60 billion shares valued at 3.29 billion ringgit Malaysia (832.91 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher Friday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 4.45 points, or 0.18 percent, to settle at 2,520.26. Trading volume stood at 345.21 million shares worth 6.14 trillion won (5.8 billion U.S. dollars).

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 1.08 percent higher on Friday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index increased by 95.18 points to 8,915.92. The all-share index went up by 35.20 points, or 0.69 percent, to 5,151.07.

Trading volume reached 914.34 million shares worth 10.02 billion pesos (197.44 million U.S. dollars).
