WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- World 100 meter silver medalist Christian Coleman broke the 60 meter indoor world record on Friday at the Clemson Invitational track meet.

His performance took 0.02 off the world record of 6.39 that was set in 1998, and then equalled in 2001, by compatriot Maurice Greene.

"WORLD RECORD!! 6.37s. Great start to my career. Thank You God." Greene wrote on his social media.

Coleman's previous best was 6.45 seconds at last year's US collegiate indoor championships.
