KABUL, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Head of a delegation who was tasked last week to visit Afghanistan's western Herat province and check corruption there has been detained on charge of receiving bribe, local media reported Sunday.

"Head of a delegation who was recently assigned to review the situation in the Municipality of Herat city and check possible corruption in the entity was detained on charge of receiving 11,000 U.S. dollars as bribe from someone there," Tolo television channel reported in its news bulletin.

However, the media outlet didn't reveal the name of the suspect.

Afghan government, in addition of facing variety of daunting challenges such as fighting insurgents and increasing poppy products in the war-battered country, has also been fighting to overcome corruption.

Both President Mohammed Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah have repeatedly said that the government is determined to fight corruption and get the government departments rid of the corruption menace.
