Paris terror attacks suspect to face trial in Brussels

BRUSSELS, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Salah Abdeslam, the sole surviving suspect of the Paris terrorist attacks on Nov. 13, 2015, will go to trial Monday at Brussels' Palace of Justice over a shootout with police.

Abdeslam bas been brought to a high-security prison close to France's northern border so that he can be taken to the Brussels court for every day of his four-day trial.

The 28-year-old French citizen was arrested during a large police operation in the Rue des Quatre Vents in Molenbeek, Brussels, 127 days after the Paris bombings that killed a total of 130 people.

Abdeslam will face a later trial in France in relation to the Paris attacks.

Arrangements have been made to accommodate the suspect. Two cells were equipped with surveillance cameras to observe the slightest movement of the defendant. A monitoring station will also be installed between the two cells.

The Palace of Justice of Law Courts of Brussels will open its doors at 6:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) on Monday morning. Massive security measures will be taken and security forces dispatched around the court.
