MEXICO CITY, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- Mexican industrialists said Monday that they approve of the new government's strategy to strengthen the police force to fight rising violence.

A larger police presence would contribute to guaranteeing the rule of law and the security of homes and companies, Manuel Herrera, representative of the Confederation of Industrial Chambers (Concamin), said in a statement.

"Preserving security at every level and across the length and breadth of the national territory (is) indispensable to fight against organized crime, illegality and corruption in the country... We express our absolute backing and collaboration," he said.

Concamin raised an alarm days ago as attacks and thefts on transport trucks increased in recent months. Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete has announced that 5,000 more police officers would be deployed in the country's most dangerous areas.

According to Concamin, the previous deployment of seven police divisions had made violent crime practically disappear in the cities concerned. Enditem
