TOKYO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher on Wednesday tacking a positive cue from Wall Street's overnight recovery from a sell-off a day earlier that triggered a global equities rout.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 614.93 points, or 2.85 percent, from Tuesday to 22,225.17.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 53.09 points, or 3.05 percent, to 1,796.50.

On the main section all industry categories advanced, with nonferrous metal, iron and steel, and machinery-oriented issues comprising those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
