BANGKOK, Feb.9 (Xinhua) -- A woman was killed while trying to take a selfie with a friend on a train track at a station in Bangkok, local police said.
The 28-year-old had been drinking with a group of friends near the Samsen train station in Bangkok's Phaya Thai district. At around 4 a.m. local time on Thursday, they came to the station and tried to take a selfie with a train in it.
The tragedy happened when she and a male friend attempted to take a photo with an outgoing train in the background, failing to see an oncoming train.
Taking selfies, especially in dangerous locations, is a new popular culture in Thailand and India. In January, a man died in a similar accident in India.
In 2016 Thailand penalized taking selfies on the runway while a plane was landing. The same year, Indian authorities declared 16 no-selfie zones around Mumbai, the financial capital of India.
