ISLAMABAD, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani security forces have foiled a major terror bid by killing two suicide bombers in the country's northwest tribal region of Bajaur Agency, a statement from the Pakistan army said on Monday.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistani army, said that the security forces, on a tip-off, conducted a successful operation in Ghatki area of Mamoond district of Bajaur Agency near the Afghan border and killed two suspected suicide bombers belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

The killed who sneaked into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan were trying to move towards the regional headquarters of the area, said the ISPR.

The security forces encircled the terrorists near Ghatki, Bajaur Agency and asked them to surrender, said the statement, adding that the suspects were killed while trying to escape.

A suicide jacket, anti-tank mines, magnetic mines, prepared remote-controlled improvised explosive devices, remote-controlled receivers, detonators, and communication equipment were recovered from the suicide bombers, the army said further.

Following the incident, security at the entry and exit points of Bajaur Agency was tightened.

Earlier on Sunday, security forces claimed to have arrested five terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the southwest province Balochistan.
