MADRID, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- Spanish Liga Santander side, UD Las Palmas on Monday confirmed they had sold attacking midfielder Jonathan Viera to Chinese side, Beijing Guoan.

Although the club has refused to say what the exact price is, sources in the Spanish media report Beijing Guoan have paid Las Palmas around 20 million euros for the 28-year-old who made his debut for the Spain national side in 2017.

The sale comes over two weeks since the transfer window closed in Europe and the only option Las Palmas have of replacing Viera is if they sign a player who is currently out of contract.

Las Palmas are currently third from bottom of the league and the sale of the club's most emblematic player will only hard their efforts to avoid relegation to the Spanish second division.

Nevertheless Las Palmas President told the press that despite weakening an already struggling team, he believed he had "taken the best decision for the interests of the club. I am certain the team will get out of this with the work the coach (Paco Jemez) is doing."

Viera is a quick and talented player with excellent vision and pace, able to take on defenders in dangerous areas of the pitch, as well as to produce incisive passes and to score goals.
