BERLIN, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) -- To bring people closer to cultural heritage, more than 100 historic sites across Germany will offer visitors opportunities to enjoy a meal or learn the culinary culture there, it's announced Monday.

These German palaces, castles, abbeys and parks joined a nationwide campaign, "To Table! Enjoy Castles and Gardens", as various activities across Europe are scheduled for the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, according to a statement the German National Tourist Board on Monday.

Visitors will be given access to kitchens, banqueting and ceremonial halls, orangeries, kitchen gardens, storerooms, wine cellars and refectories of these German historical locations. They can enjoy foodie treats, markets, and many other events around food and drink, or listen to interesting anecdotes from culinary history.

The European Year of Cultural Heritage in 2018 is an initiative aiming to bring people of Europe closer to their cultural heritage and history in order to create a sense of belonging.

In Germany, one highlight will be a mass picnic event at Sanssouci Palace Park in Potsdam slated for June 23. Other events include "25 years of World Cultural Heritage in Bamberg", "Transromanica -- The Romanesque Routes of European Heritage" and the Handel Festival in Halle.
