S.Korea's producer price growth hits 4-month high in January

SEOUL, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Prices for goods and services traded among South Korean suppliers posted the fastest growth in 4 months in January due to higher farm goods prices, central bank data showed Wednesday.

The producer price index (PPI), which is reflected in consumer price with a time lag, stood at 103.50 in January, up 0.4 percent from the previous month, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

It was the fastest increase since September as farm goods prices jumped on a heavy cold wave during the winter season.

Prices for agricultural, livestock and fishery products gained 2.5 percent in January from a month earlier. Agricultural product prices advanced 8.7 percent, posting the highest rise since August last year.

Livestock and fishery product prices declined 4.2 percent and 0.8 percent respectively.

Prices for industrial goods rose 0.3 percent in January, with prices for gasoline and diesel climbing 1.8 percent and 4.2 percent each.

Services prices gained 0.4 percent in January from a month earlier. Prices for electricity, natural gas and tap water was unchanged last month.
