NEW DELHI, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- India's famous film-actor of Kamal Haasan launched his new political party "Makkal Needhi Maiam" (People's Justice Centre) in the country's southern state of Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday.
In a day-long hectic events, the Bollywood actor began his political journey from the temple city of Rameswaram and congregated at Madurai city. Haasan showed his party allegiance to former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, as he visited the residence of the late leader.
The party's launch was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kehriwal and thousands of Haasan's supporters.
"I am no more a movie star. From now on, I will be a lamp at your home," English daily The Times of India quoted the film star-turned-politician as saying while interacting to his supporters enroute to Madurai.
Meanwhile, another famous film actor Rajinikanth has also shown his political ambitions. He is also tipped to be announce his new political party anytime soon.
