LOS ANGELES, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) -- Marking its 10th anniversary, online accommodation giant Airbnb announced Thursday a new hotel-like tier of service, called Airbnb Plus, on its platform.

The new unveiled category of rentals is being marketed as a more standardized style of service that is "verified for quality" and includes a set of amenities one might typically find in a hotel.

"Every Airbnb Plus home is one-of-a-kind, thoughtfully designed, and equipped with a standard set of amenities - whether you're in a private room or have the entire place to yourself," the company said.

The California-based company says Airbnb Plus is a new selection of only the highest quality homes with hosts known for great reviews and attention to detail. Hosts of the properties must have a 4.8 out of 5-star rating or higher.

All Airbnb Plus homes are rated by the company's inspectors. The homes will be "visited in person to ensure comfort, consistency, and design."

According to The New York Times, the average nightly rate for an Airbnb Plus listing will be 200 U.S. dollars, instead of 100 U.S. dollars for standard listings.

The higher-end accommodations that meet 100-point quality checklist is debuting with more than 2,000 homes across 13 cities, including Austin, Barcelona, Cape Town, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Milan, Rome, San Francisco, Shanghai, Sydney, and Toronto.

Since it started 10 years ago, Airbnb has had 300 million overnight stays, according to media reports. However, the company, which wants to have more than one billion people staying in its rentals in 10 year, is still not mainstream enough to compete with hotels.
