JAKARTA, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers continued search operation on Friday and recovered 2 corps, bringing death toll to 8 as 13 farmers remain buried as a result of Thursday's landslides in Central Java province, an official said.

Heavy machinery equipment still could not enter the scene of the natural disaster in Pasir Panjang village of Brebes district, making the search and rescue for the affected continue to be undertaken in manual way, head of disaster agency in Brebes district Eko Andalas disclosed.

"The search operation is underway now, but the rescuers only use their bare-hands and simple devices. Heavy machinery equipment only can open blockades in roads in the village," he told Xinhua by phone from the scene.

Those who are participating in the search and rescue operation include soldiers, police, personnel from disaster agency office and search and rescue office as well as volunteers, Andalas added.

The natural disaster occurred on Thursday when the victims were cultivating their farmland in a slope of hill, spokesman of national disaster management agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told Xinhua in a text message.

A total of 14 farmers survived the incident but suffer from injuries, he added.

All the wounded have been treated in a nearby health clinic for their wounds, according to him.
