ZAGREB, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Croatian government on Tuesday appointed Fabris Perusko as the new state's extraordinary manager for the indebted company Agrokor.

Agrokor, the biggest private company in this southeastern European country with some 60,000 employees, was handed over to state control in April 2017 under a special law when its debt crisis was revealed.

According to the law nicknamed Lex Agrokor, a new management has to propose a debt settlement to the court by April 10, 2018. There is a possibility of extension for three months and ex-manager Ante Ramljak already said that extra time would be needed.

Perusko was the Chief Financial Officer of Agrokor Group's affiliate Tisak, Croatia's leading distributor of print and tobacco products. He was already consulting Agrokor on the restructuring process.

"I expect that Croatia's Commercial Court will soon approve Perisko's nomination as extraordinary manager. The Government's goal remains the welfare of our economy, our financial system, as well as the quality functioning of Agrokor, preservation of jobs and a debt settlement," Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

Agrokor's primary activity is production and distribution of food and beverages and retail trade, among others.
