Japan's GDP upwardly revised to 1.6 pct annualized growth in October-December

TOKYO, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Japan's economy expanded 1.6 percent on an annualized basis, revised upward from preliminary growth of 0.5 percent growth, government data showed Thursday.

According to the Cabinet Office, the growth in real gross domestic product, equated to a 0.4 percent expansion from the previous quarter.

Real gross domestic product is the total value of goods and services produced in Japan.

The Cabinet Office in mid-February had initially said that Japan's GDP rose 0.1 percent from the previous quarter, owing to increased consumption and rising capital expenditure.

Through December, Japan, the world's third-largest economy, marked an eighth straight quarter of growth, government data showed.
