NAIROBI, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta held talks with opposition leader Raila Odinga in Nairobi on Friday and agreed to resolve their long-standing differences.

The two who addressed a joint news conference said the Friday's meeting marked a new beginning for Kenya.

"Starting today my brother (Odinga) and I have agreed that we will start a process of bringing our people together," Kenyatta told a news conference in Nairobi.

The two said they resolved to work together to unite and develop the East African nation, which has been divided along tribal lines following the August 2017 general elections.

"We shall bring a process of bringing our people together, and find out what really divides our nation," the president added.

He promised to release a more detailed statement later Friday.
