MOSCOW, March 12 (Xinhua) -- A massive fire broke out Monday morning at a warehouse of automobile tires in the city of Novosibirsk, Russia's largest city and also the capital of Siberian District in the Far East of the country, local media reported.

There is yet no report of casualties, but the area of fire has spread to at least 300 square meters, with the metal structures of the warehouse starting to yield in high temperature, state-owned RIA Novosti news agency quoted an official of the local department of the Ministry of Emergency Situation as saying.

Some 90 people are at the scene to contain the flames. A mobile chemical-radiometric laboratory is also deployed to measure the level of hazardous particles in the air.

The massive blaze could have been caused by careless handling of fire, said the official.
