RIGA, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Latvian ministers on Tuesday appointed Dace Peleka as acting head of the State Revenue Service after the tax authority's director general Ilze Cirule died suddenly last weekend, local media reported.

After a meeting with the Revenue Service's officials on Monday, Latvian Finance Minister Dana Reizniece-Ozola said she would recommend appointing Peleka, director of the Revenue Service's Tax Administration, as the tax authority's acting head.

The minister underlined that the State Revenue Service would carry on its work as usual and the passing of Cirule is not expected to cause any disruption.

The finance minister plans to meet with representatives of the State Chancellery to discuss organizing a competition to pick a new head for the Revenue Service.

Peleka temporary acted as the Revenue Service's director general already in 2016 after Inara Petersone resigned as Latvia's top tax official.

Cirule suddenly died aged 54 last Saturday. Police representative Ieva Sietniece told lsm.lv public media website that Cirule was found dead on Saturday at her home.

Although no signs of violence were found, a forensic examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of the death.
