Suspected Jihadist arrested in northern Spain

MADRID, March 14 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed Wednesday that a 27-year-old man has been arrested in the north of Spain on suspicion of having indoctrinated himself into becoming a potential jihadist terrorist.

According to the Interior Ministry, the man was in the process of "radicalization through the internet, social media as well as chat and message applications used by terrorist organizations."

The detention took place in the small town of San Martin de Unx, 45 kms from Pamplona. The suspect was seemingly on the verge of traveling to the conflict zones of Iraq and Syria to "carry out a (terrorist) act as a solitary attacker."

A total of 274 suspected jihadists have been arrested in Spain since investigations began in late 2015.
