Flu claims 100 lives so far in Romania

BUCHAREST, March 14 (Xinhua) -- A total of 100 people had died from influenza so far in Romania, according to data released Wednesday by the National Center for Surveillance and Control of Communicable Diseases.

The last person who died from the flu was a 78-year-old woman who hadn't been vaccinated against flu, according to the center.

The total number of flu cases was over 1,100, most of them in the capital of Bucharest and in the counties of Constanta and Iasi, southeastern and northeastern Romania, respectively.

Over 980,000 people at risk of contracting the virus have so far received the flu vaccine distributed by the ministry of health.
