2,000 participants to attend GMS Summit in Vietnam

HANOI, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The 6th Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Summit will be held here on March 29-31, with the expected participation of some 2,000 participants.

The participants include GMS countries leaders, senior public officials, private sector representatives and development partners such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Dinh Quy told reporters on Thursday.

Themed "Leveraging 25 years of Cooperation, Building an Integrated, Sustainable and Prosperous GMS," the summit is set to review achievements and shortcomings of cooperation programs over the past 25 years.

Delegates will also discuss and set directions for cooperation and connectivity in the coming time, said Quy. Under the framework of the summit, main discussion sessions include infrastructure and financial sources, agriculture and global trade.

A GMS Business Summit will be held for the first time to connect firms from member countries. Over 200 firms have registered to attend the business summit.

Countries under the GMS program, which focuses on increased regional cooperation and integration for inclusive and sustainable development, include Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.
