Ford plans to speed up truck, SUV upgrading

CHICAGO, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. automaker Ford has announced plans to upgrade more than three-quarters of its lineup and add four new trucks and SUVs for North America market by 2020.

In a press release, Ford vowed to strengthen its position especially in best-selling pick-ups, such as F-150, and SUVs, hybrids.

"Our passion for great vehicles is stronger than ever," Jim Hackett, Ford president and CEO, said on Thursday.

Ford also announced a package called Co-Pilot360, which includes standard automatic emergency braking, blind spot warning and other driver assist features.

Hackett hoped that the transformation will drive profitable growth and further build toward Ford's future of smart vehicles in a smart world.

Ford said it will cut its average showroom age from 5.7 to 3.3 years by 2020 through revamping its lineup.
