JAKARTA, March 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian transport ministry reopened Ngurah Rai international airport in Bali resort island on Sunday after it was shutdown as Balinese perform the Day of Silence, a government official said here.

Spokesman of Indonesian Transport Ministry Bambang Ervan said visitors can resume flight toward or from the tourist destination.

"The airport was open again this morning. Visitors or holidaymakers can resume flight to Bali," he told Xinhua by phone.

Ngurah Rai international airport was closed on Saturday morning along with the commencement of the Day of Silence, said Ervan.

Day of silence is a day for self-reflection in Bali, and anything that might interfere with the purpose is limited. The main restrictions include no traveling, no entertainment or pleasure, no fire, no working, and for some no talking or eating at all.

Bali resort island is the center of Indonesian tourism industry with 400,000 foreign holidaymakers visiting the island every month, according to data from the national statistics agency.
