Russia transfers reports of geological surveys to Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Russia has transferred to Mongolia the first part of the geological survey report, which were conducted from 1960 to 1990 on the territory of Mongolia, the Mongolian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.

Dating back to the era of the Soviet Union, the studies were conducted by experts from both countries.

"Today, Russia has transferred the valuable reports of those studies to us free of charge. This is a result of many years of negotiations," Mongolian Foreign Minister Damdin Tsogtbaatar said at a ceremony regarding the transfer of the reports.

The reports are about geological mapping, geophysical exploration, uranium, gold, fluorspar, coal, oil, and even diamond research.

Ts.Munkhtsengel, an expert of the Geological Policy Department of the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry of Mongolia, said: "I am confident that the reports will attract the interest of domestic and foreign investors."

Over 70 CDs and 61 pages of materials related to the geological studies have been transferred via the Mongolian Embassy in Russia.
