SYDNEY, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Six people were stranded for about 15 minutes on a rollercoaster ride in the Gold Coast city of Australia's Queensland state on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Dreamworld theme park told Xinhua.

"Controlled stop sensors for the major theme park's BuzzSaw ride were activated at approximately 1:40 p.m. bringing the ride to an immediate stop," said the spokesperson.

The six people were returned to the boarding platform and safely disembarked, she said.

"During that period, we were in contact with the guests through the ride's speaker system to keep them updated on the process of returning the ride to the station.

"All of our rides are fitted with computer-operated controlled stop sensors and are an essential component of this ride's safety features. They occur for a variety of reasons, from safety sensor alignment to guest behaviour or weather."

The ride will be inspected by engineers and retested before it reopens, said the spokesperson.

In October 2016, four people died when a water ride at the theme park malfunctioned.
