TALLINN, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Incumbent Estonian parliamentary president Eiki Nestor Thursday was re-elected by the country's parliament (Riigikogu) for the board.
Nestor had been nominated by Social Democratic Party (SDE) chairman Kalvi Kova and was re-elected the president of the Riigikogu by secret ballot; 97 out of the total 101 Riigikogu members took part, said the press release.
Henn Polluaas, candidate of the Conservative People's Party of Estonia (EKRE) parliamentary group, came in second with 35 votes.
Center Party candidate and incumbent first vice-president Enn Eesmaa was re-elected with 56 votes, while Reform Party candidate Kalle Laanet was elected second vice-president with 30 votes.
The Riigikogu board consists of a president and two vice-presidents. Coordinating the work of the Riigikogu, the board is elected from the members of the Riigikogu for a one-year term.
The president of the Riigikogu is the second most important official in the country after the Estonian president, and has the power to temporarily fulfil the president's duties when required.
