TOKYO, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks tumbled Friday morning, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index falling more than 3 percent, as investors feared U.S. President Donald Trump's high tariffs on Chinese good would start a trade war.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average plummeted 764.07 points, or 3.54 percent, from Thursday to 20,827.92.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, tumbled 48.73 points, or 2.82 percent, to 1,678.66.

All industry categories on the main section lost ground, with machinery, nonferrous metal and mining-linked issues comprised those that decline the most by the morning break.
