Kenyan bourse ends week lower as turnover, key index slide

NAIROBI, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Turnover at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) ended the week lower on Friday pulled down by decline in traded volumes due to drop in local investors' participation.

The market turnover stood at 8.4 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 23.4 million shares, compared to 55.1 million shares worth 17 million dollars traded on Thursday.

Foreign participation stood at 61 percent while local at 39 percent down from 41 percent with the former being net sellers.

The NSE 20 Share Index decelerated by 4.19 points to close at 3,847.18 points while the NSE All share Index (NASI) increased by 0.50 points to close at 192.17 points. On the other hand, the NSE 25 Index was up 13.35 points to close at 4,957.44.

Safaricom, Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank, Kengen and Mumias were the top traded stocks, moving around 8.3 million, 4.6 million, 1.6 million, 1.5 million and 1.4 million shares respectively.

Bond turnover increased by 16 percent to stand at 16 million dollars compared to 8.7 million dollars traded on Thursday. Enditem
