TOKYO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- An airport in Fukuoka, southwestern Japan had to close its runway for two and a half hours on Saturday after tires of a jet were punctured when landing.

According to local reports, the two front tires of a Peach Aviation jet from Kansai International Airport were punctured when the jet landed in the Fukuoka Airport Saturday morning.

The Airbus A-320 plane could not move off the runway due to the punctured tires, causing the runway to be closed.

Some 159 passengers and six crew members were onboard the plane when the incident happened and none was injured, according to officials.

The runway was reopened about two and a half hours later.

Due to the incident, about 82 flights were cancelled and dozens of flights had to be diverted to other airports, according to officials.

Japan's Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry, ranking it as a "major incident", has sent three officials to investigate the case.
