YUSHAN, CHINA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Snooker player Barry Hawkins lost 9-8 on the second match day at 2018 Chinese Pool World Championship held in southeastern China's Yushan county, Jiangxi province on Tuesday.
In a previous clash between two professional snooker players Monday, Hawkins lost 9-5 to Joe Perry before dropped to the losers' section. He took an early 8-6 lead over pool world champion Ko Pin-Yi in the best-of-17 match, the latter managed to fight back by winning three frames in a row to defeat the winner of Snooker 2017 World Grand Prix.
"I enjoyed today, I played OK earlier, but in this match I struggled," said Hawkins. "I missed some easy balls partly because I am not used to the cue but I really enjoy my time here. So, maybe I can find another cue I can get used to and I can improve my Chinese pool," he added.
Joe Perry started from 0-4 down, playing all 17 frames to beat Shane O'Hara in an earlier match. After two consecutive victories, he headed to the last 32 of the championship.
The 2018 Chinese Pool World Championship offers a total prize money of three million RMB (about 474,285 U.S. dollars). More than 400 players from 43 countries and regions are chasing the title in Yushan.
