BEIJING, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa will travel to China for a state visit on April 2-6 at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.

The following is a profile of Mnangagwa.

In his youth, Mnangagwa participated in the Zimbabwean War of Liberation as a guerilla fighter in 1960s.

Since Zimbabwe's independence in 1980, Mnangagwa has successively served as minister of national security, minister of justice, leader of the House, minister of rural housing and social amenities and minister of defense.

In 2014, he was appointed as vice president, and also retained in his post as minister of justice.

In November 2017, Mnangagwa was sworn in as Zimbabwe's new president.
