KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, April 2 (Xinhua) -- A Taliban key leader Mawlawi Burhan is among over a dozen people killed in Dasht Archi district of the northern Kunduz province on Monday, a local official said.

"A key Taliban leader Mawlawi Burhan is among over a dozen militants killed in the deadly airstrikes in Daftani area of Dasht Archi district today afternoon," the official told Xinhua on the condition of anonymity.

Meanwhile, an official with the public relation office of Pamir 20 Corps has also confirmed that Mawlawi Burhan, a senior member of Taliban leadership visiting the Taliban fighters to reorganize the group, was killed with 14 more insurgents in Dasht Archi district during the air raids against Taliban militants.

According to the official, 15 militants were killed and 10 others injured in the airstrikes.

However, locals believe that the number of casualties might be higher than reported.

Spokesman for Kunduz police Inamudin Rahmani has also confirmed the airstrikes and asserted that more than two dozens of militants, including some foreigners, were killed and injured in Dasht Archi district of Kunduz province at around noon on Monday. He also said that the investigation is underway.

Taliban militants haven't commented on the report yet.
