BELGRADE, April 3 (Xinhua) -- The Belgrade Fair on Tuesday kicked off the 40th Nautic, Hunting and Fishing Show and the 23rd Beoplant Fair with exhibitions of nautical equipment, hunting, fishing and horticulture.

Belgrade lies along two major rivers, Danube and Sava, and its people are getting increasingly drawn to nautical activities, which can be seen in the growing number both visitors and exhibitors of the fair, organizer Filip Kocic noted.

"The interest in the fair grows with the purchasing power of people, and there is an increasing number of people that can afford such things. Society is getting more interested in nautics and for spending time on water -- to that segment of life in general," Kocic told Xinhua.

The most expensive item at the horticulture fair is exhibited within the segment for maintenance of parks -- a huge John Deer tractor, biggest of its kind, while the most attractive and expensive plant offered at the fair is a special sort of olive tree coming from Italy.

The two fairs were opened at a ceremony by the Serbian State Secretary Velimir Stanojevic, on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture. The event is open until April 7.
