Senior U.S. official ends visit to Pakistan, Afghan issue discussed

ISLAMABAD, April 3 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Alice Wells wrapped up her visit to Pakistan on Tuesday, with Afghan issue prominently figured in the trip.

The U.S. Embassy said Wells held meetings with Pakistan's military and civilian leaders during her visit to capital Islamabad and Karachi from March 28 to April 3, which was her second visit to Pakistan this year.

Afghan issue was prominently figured in Wells' talks and she called for Pakistan's role in the Afghan peace process, a Pakistani official, who was part of a meeting, said on Tuesday.

Pakistan has been insisting that Afghan peace process is a shared responsibility and all countries which have contacts and influence over the Taliban should play their role, the official told Xinhua on Tuesday.
