SARAJEVO, April 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 20 years after the war, the reconstructed cable car was opened Friday in Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) capital Sarajevo, connecting the city center with Trebevic mountain.

The famous "Trebevic cable car" first opened in 1959, after which it was destroyed during the war that took place from 1992 until 1995.

The opening ceremony was attended by Sarajevo mayor Abdulah Skaka who said the occasion evokes special emotions.

"My dream is for us to ride again by cable car. Here we build and talk about emotion, remove the invisible border, here we work together to build BiH," he added.

For Muhamed Hamamdzic, a worker who worked for 36 years at the cable car, the departure of the first gondola brought back memories from 1959.

Trebevic Cable Car connects Sarajevo city centre and Trebevic Mountain which is known for hosting of the 1984 Winter Olympic Games and competition in bobsleigh.

The cable car's capacity is 33 cabins, driving at a speed of 5 kmh, and bringing 1,200 people to Trebevic Mountain in 7 minutes. Each trip will cost 6 KM (3.76 U.S. dollars) for local travelers and 20 Bosnian Marks (12.52 U.S. dollars) for foreigners.
