JAKARTA, April 9 (Xinhua) -- North Jakarta district on Monday sentenced a Muslim preacher to nine years in jail for inciting a suicide attack in East Jakarta last year that left 3 policemen dead.

Kiki Muhammad Iqbal, 38, had incited others to commit to terrorism acts through his sermons, the court said.

"We found that the defendant has validly and convincingly been guilty of organizing and inciting others to commit terror acts," presiding judge Purwanto said.

Two suicide bombers exploded themselves in a bus stop at Kampung Melayu of East Jakarta on May 24 last year.

Besides killing the three policemen, the attack also killed the two bombers and injured 12 civilians, according to the police.

The police revealed that Iqbal was arrested in June last year in Sumedang district of West Java province, after a link between him and the two bombers was found out.

Iqbal was a student of a radical cleric Amman Abdurahman, who led the Jemaah Ansharut Daulah, which is loyal to the global IS terrorist group, according to the police.
