BELGRADE, April 11 (Xinhua) -- Educational aircraft of the Serbian Army "Super-Galeb G-4" crashed on Wednesday morning on a field near Serbian village of Kovacica, killing one pilot and severely injuring his colleague, Serbian defense ministry confirmed in a press release.
The crash took place around 10 a.m., some 50 kilometers north of the capital Belgrade. The defense ministry confirmed that there was an accident resulting in two pilots catapulting from the aircraft.
The press release said that rescue teams was on the way, and that during the catapulting, one pilot was killed while the other was taken to hospital with injuries, but in a conscious state.
National broadcaster RTS reported that nearby residents heard an explosion, and saw the plane and the pilots falling on opposite sides of the field.
Army and police forces are at the crash scene. Prosecutor from nearby city of Pancevo is expected to conduct an investigation.
