SKOPJE, April 12 (Xinhua) -- The Macedonian government pulled through the vote of no confidence requested by the largest opposition party VMRO-DPMNE in the parliament session that lasted up to midnight on Wednesday.

Only 40 Members of Parliament (MPs) of the Macedonian opposition voted in favor of overthrowing the government, whereas 62 majority MPs voted against.

Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, in his address before MPs, called on the opposition to be constructive and uphold the country's interests.

"Macedonia is moving in the right direction by implementing important reforms and infrastructural projects," stated Zaev.

Meanwhile, VMRO-DPMNE MPs declared that the government does not have the necessary capacities to lead institutions and that it's taking political revenge, it is failing in terms of the economy and that it has pledged to change the country's name.

VMRO-DPMNE MPs accused Zaev's government of increasing criminality, other negative phenomena in the country, and the collapse of the economy.

In a reply to the accusation of the opposition the ruling Social Democratic League lawmakers replied that Macedonia was destroyed in the last 10 years by VMRO governments.

Zoran Zaev came to power on June 1 last year and this is the first no confidence motion against his government.
