NAIROBI, April 16 (Xinhua) -- The following are news highlights in Kenya's main media outlets on Monday.

-- Kenneth Matiba, Kenya's leader for multiparty politics who died on Sunday after a long illness, was a man of many firsts. From becoming one of the youngest permanent secretaries to climbing the Himalayas, Matiba was well-grounded in what he did.

On May 18, 1963, aged only 31, Matiba was summoned to the office of colonial Permanent Secretary for Education David Gregg, who had good news for the young man; he was to be appointed the new permanent secretary in the ministry. As the first black permanent secretary in the ministry, Matiba was to oversee the Africanization of the education sector. (Daily Nation)
