ANKARA, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said Tuesday the ruling Justice and Development Party will evaluate a call for early presidential and parliamentary elections.
"Our official institutions will make an evaluation and a statement will be made afterwards," Bozdag, who is also the governmental spokesperson, told reporters in Ankara.
Bozdag's statement came after opposition Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahceli called for presidential and parliamentary elections to be held on Aug. 26, 2018, instead of the scheduled date in November, 2019.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan did not directly respond to Bahceli's remarks, but said he would meet with the MHP head on Wednesday. Erdogan and Bahceli have established a party ally for the upcoming elections.
Erdogan said the constitutional changes about presidential system will be fully implemented after the presidential and parliamentary elections.
Turkey passed a referendum one year ago, which allows the country to shift from a parliamentary system to a presidential system.
