NAIROBI, April 20 (Xinhua) -- Kenya will seek to silence critics after missing out on a Commonwealth Games medal by reclaiming the Singapore title in the eighth leg of the World Sevens Series this weekend.

Kenya turned the tide by finishing second in the last two legs of the series in Vancouver and Hong Kong before running out of steam to lose to New Zealand in the quest for the Commonwealth Games medal in Gold Coast, Australia.

Kenya finished eighth in the Commonwealth Games. Head coach Innocent Simiyu believes his team has turned the page on their poor run at the Gold Coast and will be firing on all cylinders in Singapore in a bid to recapture the title they last won in 2016.

"It is back to business and will be looking out for consistency and better performance from the boys," Simiyu said.

In Singapore, Kenya will feel a lot of nostalgia as they return to the scene of their first ever cup win back in 2016.

They are also joined by USA and France, who will be bolstered by the strong French contingent in the Singapore Stadium.

Upstart Ian Minjire is the newest face in the Kenyan squad having only made his debut in the Hong Kong Sevens two weeks ago when Kenya lost in the cup final to Fiji.

Simiyu hopes his experienced players like Captain Oscar Ouma, Willy Ambaka, Billy Odhiambo and Collins Injera will be on top of their game.

Kenya is seventh in the World Series standings with 83 points.
