TRIPOLI, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Spokesman of Libya's UN-backed government, Mohamed Al-Sallak, on Monday said Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj would pursue those responsible for attacking M'etiga international airport in Tripoli, the capital.
"The Head of the Presidency Council (of the government) condemns the attack on the airport and the indiscriminate firing of missiles on aircraft, which have endangered civilians and damaged state properties," Al-Sallak told a news conference.
"Serraj holds the gunmen who committed these acts fully responsible, and they will be prosecuted nationally and internationally," Al-Sallak added.
"A committee of the ministries of justice and interior has been formed in cooperation with the attorney general's office to deal with this issue with all means available," Al-Sallak said, when asked about measures to pursue the gunmen.
M'etiga international airport in Tripoli was targeted two days ago with mortar shells, with an aircraft of the Libyan Airlines damaged, which was later taken to Egypt for maintenance.
The airport, located inside Tripoli air base, is occasionally targeted by armed militias that try to release prisoners held inside the air base prison, which is run by the interior ministry's special deterrent force.
