LUANDA, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Angolan President Joao Lourenco, also the head the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) for Political, Defense and Security Cooperation body, said Tuesday in Luanda that "there are signs" that point to a satisfactory outcome of the crisis in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo).

Joao Lourenco was addressing the opening of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the SADC "Double Troika", which brought together in Luanda the Presidents of South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, DR Congo, the Vice-President of Tanzania and the Prime Minister of Lesotho.

For the Angolan head of state, there is "more reason to believe" that the situation in DR Congo "is heading towards a satisfactory outcome," with the marking of the presidential elections in the country on December 23.

"These are signs that can significantly contribute to the necessary and urgent easing of internal tensions in the DRC and to strengthen mutual trust between the Government, the opposition and civil society," said Lourenco.

Meanwhile, the Angolan head of state appealed to all those involved in the process of regularizing the conflict in DR Congo to demonstrate wisdom, patriotism and maximum containment in the most critical moments.

"Looking first at national interests, so that they can overcome differences and build spaces of convergence that privilege peace, security, stability and national reconciliation," he said.

Nevertheless, the Angolan president has shown concern over the violence in some regions of the neighboring country, especially in the east, where the conflicts led to the flee of 30,000 Congolese refugees to Angola in 2017.

The permanence in power of President Joseph Kabila since 2001 is considered a root cause of the internal instability in DR Congo.
