SUVA, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Vanuatu's Ambae volcano is at alert level 3, posing a threat to the island's 11,000 inhabitants, Radio New Zealand (RNZ) reported on Wednesday.
The 11,000 inhabitants on the Ambae Island are encouraged to evacuate, Vanuatu's Internal Affairs Minister Andrew Napuat said.
A request for land for the islanders has received a good response from neighboring islands, like Santo, Maewo and Pentecost, Napuat said.
Vanuatu's volcanic activities re-intensified several weeks ago as preparations are underway for another evacuation.
Director General of Vanuatu's Disaster Management Jesse Benjamin said that a second evacuation, which could cost 1.8 million U.S. dollars, would be an orderly and structured process, unlike last year.
Vanuatu's Daily Post newspaper reported that the government might seek assistance of donor countries to help with the evacuation.
